Calls are growing for Teachers Service Commission to reinstate the sacked JSS interns. Already Kuppet has petitioned TSC to rescind its decision to axe over 700 teachers, the Ministry Of Education has also dived into the matter. Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa is the latest figure to add their voice to the impasse.

Speaking during a KNUT function in Mumias, the first time Governor urged TSC to recall the termination letters issued to the tutors for apparently missing duty without satisfactory reasons.
"On behalf of the Council of Governers, we demand the reinstatement of the sacked teachers because it's their right to picket." The governor said in part.
TSC wrote to over ten thousand teachers demanding an explanation as to why they missed duty during the first week of opening. Of the number, over nine thousand responded to the show cause letters within the procedural two weeks. According to the employer, the 742 either did not respond or their response did meet the threshold of reason. Letters of termination swiftly followed as the commission moved to effect the consequences stated in the show cause letters.
"The commission has decided to terminate your internship engagement with effect from June 6, 2024, on the grounds that you engaged in the acts of professional misconduct in that you deserted duty from May, 13 to date while engaged as an intern teacher," read part of the termination letter.
Some quarters have read malice in the commission's move calling it intimidation on the part of the employer. Senator Samson Cherargei on his part, claimed that TSC is trying to create employment slots for their cronies by sacrificing innocent teachers whose only fault was to ask for better employment terms.
The government has allocated 13.4 billion towards conversion of 46, 000 intern teachers to Permanent and Pensionable terms in the financial year beginning July 1,2024.
The commission acts independently and a such it cannot take instructions from any external forces but with growing backlash to its controversial action, it remains to be seen if it will be succumb to the pressure and reinstate the educators.
